The Evolution of ChatGPT: From Its Origins to the Current State of AI Language Models
By Deepak Dhar, March 12, 2023

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a game-changer for businesses across various industries. With its ability to process large amounts of data, automate routine tasks, and make data-driven decisions it is now an indispensable tool for companies looking to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and stay ahead of the competition and the impact of AI on the business world is only expected to grow in the coming years.

ChatGPT is a new AI Chatbot that’s shaking things up and making waves in artificial intelligence & business. It was developed by OpenAI and is built on top of Open AI’s GPT3 family of large language models. As the name implies GPT (Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) understands and responds to natural human speech, and answers questions like a human with a deep-learning language model specializing in generating written text that looks like human-written text. It is a virtual research and writing assistant with its ability to decipher complex subjects instantly is excellent and its knowledge is basically limitless.

ChatGPT, deep learning uses multiple layers of a neural network and simulates the behaviour of a human brain so that it can learn like us. In ChatGPT, two competing neural networks – a Generator and a Discriminator work in competition to generate realistic-looking outputs. As the Generator creates outputs, the Discriminator determines whether the outputs are genuine or phoney.

ChatGPT has been trained on a sizeable amount of data prior to this research preview and continues learning through the human knowledge users provide, making it able to give educated responses on a vast variety of topics

How does ChatGPT work?

ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), a language model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text. OpenAI’s website offers a free trial of ChatGPT, which can be accessed by logging in, clicking on the Try ChatGPT button, and taking a test drive.

ChatGPT is trained using the Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLFH) method from OpenAI. In this method, AI is trained by a rewarding and punishing model. Rewarding actions are compensated, whereas actions that are punished are penalized.

By experimenting, AI learns what works and what doesn’t and answers complex questions, ChatGPT is transforming the way we use search engines and a chatbot can hold conversational text

interactions with users by employing artificial intelligence, and these exchanges can feel as natural as if you were chatting with a real person.
